1. Content
Content is one of the most important ingredients for a good website. It is no coincidence that so many copywriters also specialize in SEO and blogging. After all, content is the foundation of a website. If you have a lot of good, clear, and appealing text on your website, this will ultimately lead to more conversions and better positions in search results.
In addition to the texts on the website, it is also important to regularly post new content on your website. Fortunately, with a CMS such asWordPress, this is not very labor-intensive. But the advantage of regularly publishing new content such as blog articles and/or portfolio items on your website is that you can share this on social networks to generate more brand awareness and traffic. Google also likes this, because a website that stays 'up to date' gains more authority and also rises in search engine results.
If you don't know how to start writing blogs, we wrote an article about this earlier this year. Read the article here to find out how you canstart writing blogs.
2. Design & user-friendliness
In our opinion, design is the second most important aspect of a website. The website must be modern, suit your company, and be very user-friendly. If your website looks very outdated and does not work (properly) on different devices, many visitors will most likely skip your website and go to your competitor.
So make sure that your internet agency that develops your website (or if you do this yourself) makes it responsive, in line with your corporate identity and image.
3. Marketing
Don't forget that a website is actually part of your company's marketing. A website alone is useless, because if no one can visit it, it ultimately serves no purpose. That's why it's important to work hard on your marketing (including outside your website). There are various ways to do this, for example:
- Social media: Post regularly and include your website in your posts. People will most likely visit your Facebook page. You can also use social media for content marketing (by promoting blogs, etc.), which can also drive new traffic (and therefore potential customers) to your website.
- In person: Tell your (business) network about your social media channels and ask them to follow/like them. It costs nothing and takes no time at all. Simple, right?
- Emails: Include your social media channels in your email signature (e.g., with social media icons) so that all contacts who receive emails from you can view your social media channels and start following/liking them.
Oh, and while we're on the subject of marketing, don't forget to follow us on social media!
4. Speed
A slow website. Can you ever remember becoming a customer somewhere via a website where you had to wait a long time for the website to load? Most likely not. Because several studies have shown that you start losing visitors after about 2-3 seconds. And the longer it takes, the more visitors drop out?
A fast website is truly essential and is often underestimated. Soon, we can write an article (if there is interest) about optimizing your (WordPress) website for speed.
In addition, a slow website has a negative impact on your search engine rankings. And this is another one of the absolute don'ts of SEO as far as we are concerned (oh, have you read our previous article'Absolute don'ts for SEO'? If not, be sure to read it right away).
In addition, there are many more optimizations that can be made to perfect a website. But broadly speaking, content, design & user-friendliness, marketing, and speed are among the most essential components of a perfect website.
