SEO Trends

• The use of AI

We are seeing increasingly sophisticated algorithms, powered by AI and machine learning, that are getting better and better at understanding human language. This results in more accurate and relevant search results. SEO experts help with this by identifying the right keywords, analyzing competitors, and optimizing your website.

It’s also important to consider how Google handles AI-generated content. After all, the search engine is encountering more and more of it and will be paying closer attention to it. That said, computer-generated content isn’t automatically penalized. Google rewards high-quality content, regardless of how it was created.

In addition to using AI to generate text, you can also use it to better understand and get to know your users. This will help you learn more about how your product or service solves users’ problems, allowing you to better address their needs.

• Google is experimenting with continuous scrolling

Google is experimenting with continuous scrolling. In other words: no more first page of ten search results where you click through to a second page, but search results where you scroll continuously. The expectation is that more search results will now be viewed that normally wouldn’t appear on the first page. Websites that previously received less traffic will now get more visitors, but the downside is that there will also be more ads interspersed among the results to break up the list.

• Local SEO remains very important

Searches conducted via smartphones are on the rise, as are location-based services. That’s why, as a business, you should focus on improving your online presence for local searches. If local customers are important to you, you can, for example, focus on completing your Google My Business profile, gathering positive reviews, and targeting local keywords. This will help you attract more customers from the area around your business.

• The rise of voice search

Voice-activated devices such as smart speakers and virtual assistants are becoming increasingly common. Voice commands for searching for information are also on the rise. This calls for a new approach to keyword research and content optimization: more long-tail keywords and natural language patterns.

Trends in Search Engine Advertising

• The search results page changes

Google is changing the way we see search results. Previously, we always saw ads at the top, followed by a featured snippet with some information, and then the search results with links to websites.

Instead of displaying paid ads at the top, Google now shows a block with a direct answer to the user’s query. This information is compiled from many websites, but only a few of them are actually listed. Products are also offered directly.

You can create ads automatically

Soon, Google will be able to automatically generate listings and ads for you. You can also use Google Ads to find the right keywords, headlines, and descriptions for your specified URL. Although this can save you a lot of time, it’s important not to simply copy the content without question. After all, you are the expert in your industry and your business, not Google. So always check the ads if you have Google generate them.

• Ads on TikTok

TikTok has surged in popularity in recent years. And this is also evident in TikTok’s search results. The platform is already widely used to search for answers and products. A Search Ads Toggle was recently launched for TikTok; this allows users to ask questions via TikTok’s search bar, and what’s particularly interesting for advertisers is that ads are also visible in those search results. This makes (advertising via) TikTok a great way to reach younger generations.
