How comprehensive is the corporate identity?

A corporate identity can be comprehensive or somewhat simpler. You may not need custom-designed envelopes or notepads for your business at all; you can easily save money by not having them designed. Keep in mind, however, that if you choose not to have them designed now, you should discuss with the graphic designer whether it will still be possible to have them designed in the future should you end up needing them after all. In most cases, this is the basic set of materials you’ll need for your business: (Psst, we offer all of the above in our"Starter" packagefor just €199. Check it out!)

Review rounds?

The number of “revision rounds” (the number of times the design is revised, usually based on feedback from the client) is crucial to how the costs of a corporate identity design are calculated.  If you want to save on this, it’s usually possible, but keep in mind that you’ll need to be clear and precise with your graphic designer during the revision rounds you have left. Otherwise, you might end up using up all your revision rounds and have to pay extra later on.

Have your designs printed or do it yourself?

Do you have the designs printed by the graphic designer, or do you arrange for a printer yourself? Many people who hire a graphic designer to create a corporate identity assume that it’s cheaper to find a printer on their own. And that’s usually true; however, the graphic designer’s profit margin on this is typically quite small. Furthermore (and more importantly), you won’t face any issues if a print run goes wrong. In this case, the graphic designer is responsible. That’s why we recommend having your graphic designer handle the printing—especially if you have no prior experience with printing designs, this is a wise choice.

Reliability and quality of a graphic designer?

Of course, rates vary among graphic designers, which can sometimes make it tempting to hire a student for just a few dollars, so to speak. But have you considered copyright and licensing? Or the graphic designer’s professionalism and skills? Or whether the graphic designer will be available later if you want additional designs with a consistent look and feel? It’s also important to review your graphic designer’s portfolio to verify whether it delivers high-quality work (in your personal opinion). This often indicates the designer’s experience and, consequently, how well they can assist you with your project. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of fraud in this industry. Always verify the company’s details and, for example, give the company a call to confirm that it actually exists.
