Trends in the field of SEO
• The use of AI
We are dealing with increasingly advanced algorithms, driven by AI and machine learning, that understand human language better and better. That produces more precise and relevant search results. SEO specialists help with finding the right keywords, analyzing competitors and optimizing your website.

It is also important to take into account how Google handles AI-generated content. After all, the search engine is running into it more and more, and it is paying more attention to it too. That does not mean computer-generated content is penalized right away. Google rewards high-quality content, however it was created.
Besides creating copy with AI, you can use it to research and get to know your users better. That way you learn more about how your product or service solves the user’s problem, and you can respond to it better.

• Google is experimenting with continuous scroll
Google is experimenting with a continuous scroll. In other words: no more first page of ten search results with a click through to a second page, but search results you keep scrolling through. The expectation is that more search results will now be seen that would normally not appear on the first page straight away. So websites that used to get less traffic will now receive more visitors, but the flip side is that there are also more ads between the results, for example, to break up the list.
• Local SEO remains very important
Searching on our smartphones is increasing, and so are location-based services. That is why, as a company, you need to focus on improving local searches for your online presence. When local customers matter, you can focus on filling out a Google My Business page, collecting good reviews and targeting local keywords, for example. That way you attract more customers from the area around your business.

• The rise of voice search
We come across voice-controlled devices such as smart speakers and virtual assistants more and more often. Voice commands to look up information are on the rise as well. That calls for a new approach to keyword research and content optimization: more long-tail keywords and natural language patterns.

• The search results page is changing
Google is going to overhaul the way we see search results. We always used to see ads at the top, sometimes followed by a featured snippet with some information, and then the search results with links to websites.
Instead of the paid ads at the top, Google is introducing a block with a direct answer to the question asked. That is information combined from many websites, but with only a few sites named. Products are offered directly as well.
An example of one of these new blocks from Google
• You can create ads automatically
Google will soon be able to create items and ads for you automatically. You can also use Google Ads to find the right keywords, headlines and descriptions for the URL you provide. Although it can save you a lot of time, it is important not to copy the content blindly. After all, you are the expert in your industry and your company, not Google. So always check the ads if you let Google generate them.
• Advertising through TikTok
TikTok has grown enormously in popularity over the past few years. And you can see that in TikTok’s search results too. The platform is already widely used to look for answers and products. TikTok recently launched a Search Ads Toggle; it lets users ask questions through TikTok’s search bar, and what is especially interesting for advertisers is that ads are visible in those search results as well. That makes TikTok (and advertising on it) a good way to reach the younger generations.
