A website is how you show your product or service to the public. That is why it matters that those visitors actually come to your website. You have a lot of influence over that yourself. Start by digging into the data to get insight into your visitor numbers, for example with Google Analytics. This tool shows you exactly who your visitors are and how they behave on your website. How do they end up on your site, for instance? Which page gets visited most? Once your numbers are in order and you know where improvements are needed, you can get to work.

Why more website visitors?

More visitors on your website is very good news for you. You have more potential customers and therefore more revenue. On top of that, more people know about your company, which adds to your name recognition and so to your brand awareness. It also means you need to lean less on other marketing strategies to win customers, such as social media ads.

Strong content for more visitors

There is a reason Bill Gates once wrote an essay called ‘Content is King‘. Google loves relevant, high-quality content. The first step toward strong content is keyword research: which terms are your potential visitors searching for? It is smart to focus on long-tail keywords. These are search terms of more than three words, which lets you be very specific about what you offer. The result is higher conversions. You also face less competition on those specific terms, which brings more visitors to your website. Now that you know your keywords, you can start producing content that gets Google to rank your site higher, for example by writing blog posts. Go for longer content (at least 300 words) and stay consistent. Make a schedule so that you upload new content regularly. In short:

  • Do keyword research
  • Create relevant content such as blog posts
  • Keep uploading new content consistently

The user experience of your website

The user experience (UX) of your visitors is, in short, how they experience your website. An important part of it is loading speed. Google attaches more and more weight to site speed when determining rankings in the search results. So a lightning-fast WordPress website also means a higher position and more visitors for your website. Here is how to make your website lightning fast. Use Google PageSpeed Insights, for example, a tool that analyzes the content of a web page and suggests ways to make that page faster. Clear navigation is also part of a good UX. If visitors know where to find which information, they will stick around on your website longer instead of heading to a competitor. In short:

  • Create a good UX
  • Make your website lightning fast
  • Provide clear navigation

Improving the SEO of your website

We cannot repeat it often enough in our blogs: SEO is the foundation for being easy to find and therefore for more visitors to your website. Keyword research is part of it too, for example. With a plugin for WordPress, such as the Yoast SEO plugin, you can easily run an SEO check. And here is how not to do it, in any case. Things to watch out for, for instance in a blog post, are:

  • A responsive website (mobile friendly)
  • Internal and external links
  • Keywords used often enough in the text
  • The keyword in the title and meta description
  • A text length of at least 300 words
  • Alt text with a keyword on images

Link building strategy

Link building means collecting links from other websites that point to your site, for example through guest blogs. This can lead to more visitors on your website and more authority in the eyes of search engines. Read up on the dos and don’ts of link building. Here are a few short tips to start with:

  • Make sure your links are current
  • Place the link in the middle of relevant content
  • Do not buy or sell links
  • Do not exchange links excessively

Putting social media to work

Another way to be easy to find online is by using social media. Your target audience is most likely on there all day too. Take advantage of that. Pick the right platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and so on) and start working with a content calendar. Create relevant content and schedule your posts (automatically) at strategic moments. With our step-by-step plan you can put together the perfect posts. A few concrete pointers:

  • Use links and buttons
  • Publish content such as blog posts
  • Adapt your content to the platform (LinkedIn, for example, is more formal and professional)
  • Do not make your posts too long
  • Include visual content
  • Use hashtags
