Step 1: know what you are going to write blogs about
The best approach is to write about the topics you know most about in your own field. If you really cannot come up with a topic, you can use one of the following ‘templates’ to get your blog started.
“10 ways to …” “…, how do I get started?” “10 steps to …” “Do’s and don’ts for …” “Step-by-step plan …” “What to look out for when …”
The most important thing is to really draw people in to read your article and bring them to your website. Something else that helps when choosing a topic is looking at the Google Keyword Planner. This is a free tool from Google that lets you see how often people search for which keywords, and therefore which keywords you can best use to come up with the topic of your blog.
Step 2: make a mindmap
This step is optional. Once you write blogs more often, you will notice that you need it less and less while writing. But in any case, make a mindmap. You can do this quickly and easily with online tools such as Bubbl.us. Use your mindmap to collect the elements you can cover in your blog. For example, say you want to write a blog about what you should do to get more website visitors. Then you put things like this in your mindmap:
- Social media
- Google and other search engines
- Advertising > local and online
and so on.
Step 3: start writing blogs!
Just start writing blogs. Once you get going, it usually works out pretty well. If you are not sure about your blog post, ask a friend, acquaintance or colleague to take a look at it. Usually someone else will spot mistakes you have not noticed yourself. Very useful!
i SEO optimization
Of course, blogs are not only useful for turning website visitors into leads, but also for raising your page authority, for making your website easier to find through more keywords and for getting people on social media to visit your website sooner. It is important, though, to remember that you write blogs for people, not for google. So do not construct strange sentences just so you might be found more easily in Google, because Google has an advanced system in place to prevent that kind of ‘spam tactic’ and will penalize your website for it by removing it from the search results. But in any case:
- It is good to have the keyword appear in your text several times in a natural way
- Try to use as many words as possible, at least 300, but a blog post of 900 words or more is best.
- Link to relevant pages in your blog post, for example to useful online tools that are relevant to your blog post.
- Include at least 1 image in your blog post that is relevant to your blog post and make sure the keyword appears in your ‘alt description’ in a natural way.
- Make sure the keyword appears in at least one heading (H1 through H6)
- Write a good meta title and meta description, and make sure your keyword appears at least once in both in a natural way.
